Henry Luce Foundation "Luce Scholars" Program
The University of Chicago is a nominating institution for applicants to the Henry Luce Foundation "Luce Scholars" program. The Luce Scholars program is aimed at a group of highly qualified young Americans in a variety of professional fields. It is unique among American-Asian exchanges in that it is intended for young leaders who have had no prior experience of Asia and who might not otherwise have an opportunity in the normal course of their careers to come to know Asia or their Asian counterparts. The program provides stipends and internships for eighteen young Americans to live and work in Asia each year. Click here for detailed information about the Luce Scholars Program.
Eligibility: Candidates must be American citizens who have received at least a bachelors degree and are no more than 29 years old on September 1 of the year they enter the program. Nominees should have a record of high achievement, outstanding leadership ability, and a clearly defined career interest with evidence of potential for professional accomplishment. Those who already have significant experience in Asia or Asian studies are not eligible for the Luce Scholars Program.
The Luce Foundation cannot accept individual applications submitted directly to the foundation. For application information, contact your department head, Dean's office, or the Center for East Asian Studies at 773-702-8647 or eas@uchicago.edu.
The next cycle's application deadline is September 30th, 2009.
