Library Travel Grant
The Center for East Asian Studies at the University of Chicago will award a limited number of travel grants for the 2009–2010 academic year to assist visiting scholars from outside the Chicago metropolitan area in their use of the East Asian Library section of the University of Chicago Regenstein Library or the Center for East Asian Studies Film Library. Grants of up to $250 each will be awarded to help defray the cost of travel, accommodation expenses, or a combination of both. The grant is in the form of a reimbursement. Eligibility is limited to applicants at the faculty level.
Library Travel Grant Program: The East Asian Library of the University of Chicago’s Regenstein Library houses over 700,000 volumes in Asian languages and ranks among the nation’s five leading East Asian collections. Special consideration will be given to faculty residing in the Midwest and in areas where no major East Asian collection is available.
Film Travel Grant Program: The Center for East Asian Studies houses over 5,000 DVDs from Japan, Korea, and China. Film Travel grants are offered to faculty and researchers in the Midwest region to travel to the University of Chicago to view hard-to-find films for research purposes. View and search the film catalog online at: http://ceas.uchicago.edu/resource/filmlibrary.html. Films can be viewed at CEAS during normal business hours. To make an appointment to view films, contact Sarah Arehart, Outreach Coordinator, Phone: 773-702-2715.
Interested applicants for either grant should submit a brief description of their research topic related to East Asian studies, a curriculum vitae, and a brief statement of their intended use of the library or film collection. Please note that graduate students are not eligible. Materials should be mailed to: The Center for East Asian Studies Travel Grant Program, 5835 S. Kimbark Ave., Judd 302, Chicago, IL 60637.
