Congratulations to Dake Kang and Shauna Moore for winning the 2016 Asada Eiji B.A. Thesis Prizes! Dake Kang's paper is titled "Not So Revolutionary: Soviet Inspiration and Military Justifications for the Planning and Construction of Beijing's First Subway Line, 1950-1969", and Shauna Moore's paper is titled "Sore Na!: Youth Politeness Strategies on Japanese Video Blogs". 

Two Asada Eiji B.A. Thesis Prizes are awarded each year, one in the area of humanities and one in the area of social sciences. The selection committee was presented with several strong entries this year, which reflects a promising trend in East Asian studies among the undergraduate cohort at the University of Chicago.
