Professor Foxwell is an art historian at the University of Chicago's Department of Art History whose work focuses on Japan’s artistic interactions with the rest of East Asia and beyond. Her scholarship ranges from the medieval through modern periods of Japanese art with special emphasis on the 19th and 20th centuries.

Abbey Newman is Associate Director of the Center for East Asian Studies at the University of Chicago. She has over two decades of experience in university administration and project management related to East Asia, having served as Executive Director of the Council on East Asian Studies at Yale University and Program Associate at the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations.  Before that, Abbey worked in Hong Kong as a paralegal for the law firms of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP and Preston Gates & Ellis LLP and completed a year of graduate study at the Johns Hopkins University-Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies.  She holds a dual BA with Distinction in International Relations and East Asian Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MA in East Asian Studies from Yale University. She is a member of the Association for Asian Studies, NAFSA: Association for International Educators, National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, and National Council for Social Studies.

Connie Yip manages CEAS programs, working closely with faculty and students, as well as partners across the university to help support the initiatives that fulfill the CEAS mission in providing a platform for the study of East Asia.  As the primary contact for speakers and guest visitors, Connie facilitates all logistical components related to the preparation and implementation of each program.  Connie also manages the Center’s social media and website content that aims to promote CEAS news and activities.


Hyeonjin Schubert

Hyeonjin Schubert supports CEAS by performing various administrative duties, including processing payments and reimbursements, maintaining CEAS listservs and newsletters, and assisting with online applications for CEAS grants and fellowships. In her spare time, she enjoys watching HGTV shows and collecting home decor magazines for DIY projects at home.
