Kyogen Workshop and Performance

Tuesday, March 23
Sixty high school students from Julian High and Oak Park River Forest High Schools participated in a hands-on workshop with the Shigeyama Family in which they learned about movement and voicing in Kyogen theater. Watch the short video with excerpts from the workshop.
Performance: "Forest and Other Tales"
Inspired by an ancient Japanese legend, “Forest” is the story of a wounded soldier who is lured skyward by an angel. Will he stay with her, or will he choose to return to earth and its battles? Recommended for ages 12 and up.

Nori Sawa demonstrated innovative shadow puppet techniques using an overhead projector. Students created shadow puppets and performed short skits using demonstrated techniques.
