Join the Center for East Asia Studies on Monday, February 10th for a film screening of Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, a classic film by Nagisa Oshima about a Japanese POW camp during World War II.
The film depicts ambiguous male relations in a Japanese prisoner camp during World War II, and explores eastern and western conflicting ideologies and cultural codes. A discussion led by Lingling Ma on the gender roles and sexuality, and the culture clash between Japan and the West presented in the film will follow the screening.
