The Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) will continue to host in-person events during the 2022-2023 academic year. For the health and safety of event attendees, CEAS staff will be closely monitoring the ongoing situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, and will adhere to University of Chicago safety measures and protocols as they pertain to in-person gatherings across campus. CEAS will also adhere to all Chicago Department of Public Health guidance for in-person gathering at the time of the meeting or event, which may include limited attendance or capacity, face coverings, or require other mitigations for health and safety.
In addition to the safety measures set forth by the aforementioned, CEAS will implement the following for all in-person events:
- There may be a cap on the number of attendees allowed to register and attend events depending on the specific venue.
- Though mask wearing will not be required, it is strongly encouraged that unvaccinated individuals and those preferring to wear masks do so.
Please note that these measures may change according to University of Chicago guidelines. All attendees are requested to comply with University of Chicago health protocols which can be found here. For those who are not affiliated with the University of Chicago community and are campus visitors, please click here to be directed to the Campus Visitors information page as it relates to COVID-19. Visitors are required to follow the University’s COVID-19 guidance applicable at the time of their visit.
Additionally, event attendees are requested to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms, and to refrain from attending CEAS events should they develop symptoms and/or feel ill. Additional information regarding symptoms from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can be found here.
CEAS convenings are open for registration to all invitees who are compliant with UChicago vaccination requirements and, because of ongoing health risks, particularly to the unvaccinated, participants are expected to adopt the risk mitigation measures (masking and social distancing, etc.) appropriate to their vaccination status as advised by public health officials or to their individual vulnerabilities as advised by a medical professional. Public convening may not be safe for all and carries a risk for contracting COVID-19, particularly for those unvaccinated. Participants will not know the vaccination status of others and should follow appropriate risk mitigation measures.
Any changes relating to the above-mentioned details will be updated accordingly and outlined on this page. Please check back to stay up-to-date on guidelines related to in-person CEAS events. By registering to attend any in-person event, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and will abide by the protocols set forth by the University of Chicago and the Center for East Asian Studies.
CEAS appreciates the understanding and adherance to the aforementioned protocols by event attendees as we strive to maintain a safe and comfortable environment during our in-person events. Some events will continue to take place virtually, via the Zoom platform, and will also require registration.
