The Newcastle University (UK) is please to offer funding opportunity as a part of a five-year programme designed to support the study of Japan in the UK at postgraduate level which the Nippon Foundation and the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation launched in 2014. Up to three studentships (MA or PhD) will be available per annum, each worth £10,000. We invite applications from suitably qualified candidates who wish to pursue an MLitt (Masters by Research) or a PhD in Japanese studies, starting October 2016. Columbia University invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship, with the likelihood of renewal for another year. The initial term of appointment is July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2017. The fellowship is intended to foster the academic careers of recent PhDs whose area of research is Chinese Buddhism. Compensation includes an annual salary of approximately $55,000, research fund of $5,000, and health benefits. Additional financial support is available for the fellow to organize workshops and conferences in his or her area of research. The fellow will be provided with office space, access to the library system, and other related administrative assistance. To apply, please submit your curriculum vitae, graduate school transcripts, a personal statement of no more than 2,000 words outlining previous research, research the applicant plans to pursue during the fellowship period, two-page statement of teaching interests, writing sample, and three letters of recommendation. TWO OPPORTUNITIES at the ISEAS-Tusof Ishak Institute
The Nalanda-Sriwijaya Centre (NSC) of the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute is now accepting applicants for Visiting Fellowship positions in Southeast Asia Studies. Preference will be given to candidates who have done work or can do work in Inter-ethnic and/or inter-religious relations in Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand or Vietnam, and/or Transnational trajectories of Islam and their influences on Malaysia and/or Indonesia, and/or Urbanization and socio-political change in Indonesia and/or Vietnam, and/or The political and economic roles of the Chinese in contemporary Southeast Asia, and/or The application of quantitative analysis and/or Geographic Information System to the study of social trends in Southeast Asia. The fellowship includes an all-inclusive and fixed monthly stipend commensurate with qualifications and experience, a monthly housing subsidy, and term of each fellowship is one year with possible extension for an additional year. Applicants should include with their applications a cover letter, research statement, research plan, dissertation abstract and table of contents, curriculum vitae, office transcript of grades and certified copy of Ph.D. degree, and two letters of recommendation.
