1) The ESRC White Rose Doctoral Training Centre offers a wealth of supervisory expertise across the social sciences. One PhD studentship is available for an outstanding UK/EU candidate proposing to begin a PhD or an integrated MA+PhD in East Asian Studies in October 2016. ESRC studentships fund research in the social sciences. The award will cover fees at the UK/EU level and maintenance for three years (PhD) or for four years (MA+PhD). The deadline for applications is February 2, 2016.
2) The White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities Doctoral Training Partnership offers over 50 AHRC studentships per year to candidates with a place for doctoral study at the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield or York. We encourage applications for PhD study in the areas of Chinese, Japanese and Southeast Asian languages, cultures, history, religions, visual and performing arts, film, media and related subjects. Applicants for an AHRC studentship must have applied for a place of study. They may only apply for AHRC funding at one of Leeds, Sheffield or York. The deadline for applications is February 2, 2016.
3) Sasakawa Studentships in Japanese Studies offers a five-year programme designed to support the study of Japan in the UK at postgraduate level, which the Nippon Foundation and the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation launched in 2014. Up to three studentships (MA or PhD) will be available per annum, each worth £10k. Start date in October 2016. The studentships are open to students of any nationality. Non-UK nationals applying for Masters studentships are eligible only if they are settled in the UK or have been ordinarily resident for at least three years immediately preceding the start of their Masters course. This does not apply to PhD studentship candidates. The deadline for applications is February 26, 2016.

UPCOMING DEADLINE Wabash College, with the support of the ASIANetwork-Luce Foundation Teaching Fellow Program, invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship in Asian History beginning July 1, 2016. This position is designed for those who have completed a Ph.D. or other terminal degree within the last three years from a North American university in any area of Asian history. Applicants who are ABD will be considered, provided that they have a scheduled defense date prior to the beginning of the fellowship year as confirmed by their graduate advisor. The successful candidate must have a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, an appreciation for the broad intellectual community of an excellent liberal arts college, and the ability to work with a diverse student body. Responsibilities include attending New Faculty Orientation in early August, teaching three courses over two semesters, delivering one public lecture, participating in the intellectual and cultural life of the College, especially in relation to the Asian Studies Program, mentoring students, and pursuing research or other scholarly or creative projects. The Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow will work closely with faculty mentors during the fellowship year. Review of applications will begin February 15, 2016.

Harvard University’s Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies is pleased to announce the 2016-17 competition for the An Wang postdoctoral fellowship in Chinese environmental humanities. The fellow will pursue his or her research and contribute to the Environmental Humanities Initiative at the Fairbank Center. The fellowship period is from August 1st, 2016 to July 31st, 2017. The application deadline is February 29th, 2016. Applications are welcome from candidates with a Ph.D in a relevant discipline of the humanities or social sciences. The Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies of the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context" at Heidelberg University welcomes applications for up to four doctoral scholarships beginning in the winter semester 2016/17. The programme offers a monthly scholarship of 1.200 Euro. It further supports scholarship holders in framing their research through advanced courses as well as individual supervision and mentoring.
