Grants & Funding
Funding plays a pivotal role in advancing field-defining research by allowing researchers to pursue new ideas and ambitious projects. Grants and sponsorships support research activities by covering basic research costs (including the purchase of equipment, hiring of research personnel, and other project-related expenses) and enhancing research infrastructure (labs, facilities, technology), which is important to both foster an environment conducive to cutting-edge research and attract top-notch researchers.
The SSRC Research Development team works with faculty to create individualized and comprehensive funding strategies to support each researcher’s unique research agenda and specific research projects. The team considers a wide range of funding agencies including grants offered by internal, extramural, federal, and private agencies, corporate sponsors and contracts, and fellowship support. We also curate Faculty Research Funding Opportunities and Student Research Funding Opportunities lists to provide direction for researchers seeking internal, foundation, and/or federal funding.
The SSRC also provides seed funding for faculty through the Faculty Seed Grant Program and research support for graduate students via five Student Research Awards—the SSRC Graduate Student Fellows Program, W. Allison Davis Graduate Research Award, Gedvila Family Research Award, David R. and Mady W. Segal Fund for Social Sciences Research on Military Personnel, and Agnes and Nathan Janco Travel Award —that support research in a variety of disciplines across the social sciences.
